Stockholm, Sweden 23 - 29 July

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and has a population of 1.6 million people. Covering fourteen islands and surrounded by water the city is a delight for both the visitor and resident. Each age has left its mark on the city and every area has a distinct identity, from the medieval atmosphere of Gamla Stan to tha hustle and bustle of the glass and concrete centre at Sergelstorg. Amongst the bohemian cafés and bars of Södermalm you can still find quaint cottages set in tiny gardens, while the more bourgeois Östermalm is dominated by grandiose 19th century buildings.

Stockholm is as busy and active as any capital should be but also has a quality of air and water purity which is the envy of many smaller towns. Salmon are regularly caught in the waters around the palace.

Air quality is helped by an efficient public transport system where buses run on time and the metro is clean and spacious.
